Dairy Day 1...

With our little peanut nearing the one year mark it is time to wean her off the bottle and the unbelievably expensive formula.  So, I placed a call to her GI doc asking what we could wean her to.  I specifically asked if we could wean her to rice milk.  I had read on the Neocate website forum that some moms were weaning their little ones to rice milk mixed with coconut milk.  Enriched rice milk is chock full of vitamins and minerals, somewhat better than milk, but it is lacking in fat, which growing toddlers need for proper brain development, and protein.  The coconut milk is LOADED with fat!  14 grams of it per 1/3 cup!  These moms are putting 1/4 cup coconut milk in a sippy cup then filling the sippy cup with rice milk.  How ingenius is that?  So anyway when the nurse called me back she said that Dr. wanted to try her on vitamin D milk.  These were the instructions: Day 1- one drop on her lip and on her tongue.  If all goes well...Day 2 - one drop on her lip and on her tongue.  If all goes well...Day 3 - 1/2 ounce; Day 4 - 1/2 ounce.  After that, if all is still going well, we can gradually increase to no more than 16 ounces daily over a period of 10 - 14 days.  She said if little peanut doesn't do well with it to call them back and Dr. would probably keep her on the Neocate.  So I asked her about the rice milk/coconut milk option instead.  She said she would talk with dietician and Dr.  Well, she called me back this afternoon and said both dietician's said that would work just to watch her protein intake and the Dr. gave us the OKAY!!!!  That is such good news for the pocket-book!  We will have to gradually try the coconut milk to ensure she isn't allergic of course, but YAHOOOOOO!!!

Of course this is all ONLY if she doesn't handle the dairy.  So, this morning I placed one drop of vitamin D milk on her tongue and on her bottom lip.  I think she did okay.  She had a slightly yucky diaper this evening. But, it wasn't loose and there was only one messy diaper!  Before she would have had several!  So, it's only Day 1, but so far so good! :)  We will see what tomorrow brings.

Sidewalk art...

Today was laundry day!!  Worked on laundry all day!  Wash, dry, iron, put away (or in respective rooms for the olders).  Truth be told I'm still working on laundry.  Where does it all come from?!?  Silly question I know!  Yesterday we spent quite a long time at the middle school with sister K.  We wanted to make sure she knew her way around the building to all of her classes.  After about an hour and a half of walking around she felt comfortable.  I felt comfortable knowing that she could do it without any anxiety.  Yes, there will be some anxiety for her the first day, but hopefully it is lessened slightly by knowing how to get to all of her classes.  She is excited and nervous!  She has advanced math and that makes her a little nervous.  She also has band (she will be playing the flute), she is excited about that!!  We also picked up sister E's teacher assignment.  She got the teacher she was hoping for so she was happy!!  After all the walking, everyone (other than our little peanut) got a shake from Dairy Queen (we had to put those calories back on :)!  The rest of the evening was routine.  Here are those pictures I promised...

Longer than expected break!!...

Wow!  That break was longer than expected!!  We have been so busy around here lately!  Sissy started school (this is her third week in), we've been to the county fair and a tractor show!  We have been finishing up our stuff for our alphabet adventure (we started yesterday) and doctors appointment (we switched dr.'s so everyone, other than daddy - he is keeping his doc, had to go!!  I am the last one and I go next week).  Lots more stuff and just kids and family keeping us busy!!  I have lots to show you pic wise but for now I will leave you with just one that I took yesterday!  Today is another busy day and if I don't get started I will feel behind all day!  Truth be told it started at 6 a.m. but I haven't made breakfast yet, then after lunch we will take sister K to the middle school to pick up her scedule and walk her classes a few times, then to sister E's school to get her teacher assignment.  Then back home to make supper (hopefully before sissy has to get to work :), baths and bed!!  If I get a chance tonight before I pass out I'll post pics of our sidewalk art!
