Wild Kratts (earthworms),

lots and lots of "WHY?" questions ~ Why are sails and flags made out of that kind of material?  Why are boats made out of wood?  Why does metal sink?  Does plastic float?  Why is it lighter than water?  Why does this rubber duckie float if rubber sinks?  So... this all led to a little experiment:

100_5193

Does it sink or does it float?  Everyone got involved!  A few of the things they tried were ~ plastic sucker paper, plastic dish, leaf, rubber duckie, screw, crayon, wood, rubber band and tape, just to name a few :)

Then, while peeling potatoes for supper tonight, I came across this potato:

Hahah.... too funny!  The kids all got a kick out of the potato fish!  It even had an "eye" on the other side :)

The day wrapped up with K going to a Little Women meeting.  S went with us this time, and  played with her friend from Little Flowers!  It's been a wonderful day, and I'm looking forward to tomorrows adventures!

Sunday...

My favorite day of the week ~ the Sabbath!  Lots of fun, relaxing going on :)

Started our day with Mass (of course),

Friday...

Morning meeting ~

Emma and I were the only two at morning meeting this morning.  Katie slept in.  She went to see The Hunger Games last night, and didn't get home until early this morning :)  We started with a continued lesson from The Catechism of the Catholic Church on sin, and another chapter from our current read aloud.

Emma drew another picture of "Vadeeya"

Vadeeya and Boogie
(I got her permission to post it here :)

She also worked on her Friendly Defender Cards (Church and Papacy); completed math lesson 43; editing lesson 29; sketched "Darkitect"; completed lesson 113 in her grammar book; scanned her pic into the computer; looked up "stuff" on Lego Universe.  Her goals for today are to read from Famous Men of Rome, complete spelling lesson 12A, and "basically everything else".

Thursday's Thankful To Do List...

L slept in this morning!  This allowed M and me some one on one time.  We rocked and read this morning, while everyone slept.  It was a great way to start the day...

Now, our  Thankful To Do List!

~Morning meeting with K and E... Our morning meetings consist of the girls sharing what they did the day before, learning, or playing, or just being.  Their activities and learning are all self directed.  They set their own schedule and learn what they want.  I micro manage nothing in their day.  However, I do request they meet me in the mornings and discuss the previous days activities, it works for us :)  So, here is how this morning went:

E read All-of-a-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor (this is usually a read aloud in the morning, but she slept in yesterday morning and wasn't at morning meeting). Practiced her Friendly Defender Cards on Church and Papacy. Read from Famous Men of Rome. She has recently drawn a new character "Vadeeya", and she chose the colors for her. Later in the day she digitally drew and colored her on Paint Tool SAI. Watched Lego Ninjago.  Her goals for today are to basically do much of the same, write about the people she's reading about in Famous Men of Rome, a grammar lesson, work on her digital picture of Vadeeya, and attempt drawing a sketch of a person and then putting a word that best describes them in the background.

K ~Home Ec: cooking and recipes, she is creating her own breakfast and lunch menus for the week.  We supply the food/ingredients and she prepares those 2 meals for herself.  She read a chapter on celery in  Knife Skills Illustrated: A User's Manuel by Peter Hertzmann.  She is really enjoying this book; so much so, that we bought her a copy of it.   She looked up more sign language, made flash cards for them, and demonstrated them for us: dishwasher, clean-up, Canadian, Canada, Michigan, from, cheat, like, win, and because.  She has also been increasing her vocabulary.  Yesterday she look up these new words:  hemoglobin, homogeneous, hubris, and hypotenuse.  She shared the definitions with us.  She spent the rest of her day yesterday reading The Hunger Games, in preparation for the premiere of the movie tonight.  Her goal today was to finish this book.  Her and A are going to see the movie tonight.

We continued to read All of-a-Kind Family as a read aloud this morning.  Learned a few new things.  The story is about a Jewish family living in New York in 1912.  It is actually pretty good.  Today we read about Purim Day, traditional Jewish foods eaten on the celebration of Purim, and the fact that Jewish women and children only go to the synagogue on special holidays (I'm not sure if this still holds true)

~Breakfast

~Lunch

~Get supper started in the crock pot this morning supper started but not in the crock pot.  The day got away from me :)

~Clean main kitchen window ~ Only got half done :)  Such is life in our home....

~“Gluten – Friend or Foe” class at 6:30 pm  decided not to go

~Laundry washed and hung on the line

~Diapers washed and hung on the line

~Make beds

~Quick pick-up in all rooms

~Strip E's sheets, wash and hang on line to dry

I believe that's all...

~ The little's all had a great day.   They looked through a family photo album,

100_5166

drew, watched Wild Kratts, helped me hang clothes on the line, played hoola hoop,

practiced writing letters,

100_5167

played on the swings,

100_5169

and just enjoyed being together,

100_5171

Not everything got done today, never does.  But, we're good with that.  Tomorrow, I'll share the "mud fun" pictures.  Time to help M put our favorite lovee's to bed :)

Blue Knights... #2

Last night was our second Blue Knights meeting!!  I'm so excited to share what we planned for the boys!

100_4917

We first set the table in preparation for the "Knights" arrival.

100_4918

After the opening prayer, Bible memory shout, and a wonderful story about St. Ambrose, the boy's got started on their helmet of "hope". This was such a cool and easy craft!!

100_4919

The helmet pattern is found at the Clevenland Museum of Art.  To get to it, click on the link.  Next click on "Art to go", then "elementary school", then "Cool Knights".  Great craft!!

100_4912

We struggled with a game/activity for the virtue of "hope" this month.  Because of the cold weather here, and the early darkness this time of year, an outdoor activity would be tough.  We finally decided on a treasure hunt, since we "hope" to reach our treasure of Heaven someday!  We started out by creating little treasure "clues", then put them in balloons.  We also put blank strips in balloons, so the boys wouldn't be able to tell which ones had clues and which ones didn't.  :)

100_4926

There were 4 "stops" in their journey to their "treasure".  There are 5 boys in our group, so for each stop we blew up 5 balloons.  We numbered the balloons, so that the boys would be able to pop them in order of their "stops".  Then we threw them on the floor!  When the game started, the boys each grabbed a balloon with the #1.  Their goal was to pop their balloon, and see which boy got the clue.  It was really exciting to hear the boy's yell "I GOT A CLUE, I GOT A CLUE!".  Each clue led them on a hunt, then they would go back to the balloons and get the next clue.

100_4921

Their first "stop" was Mary.  The clue stated " Your journey begins with the hope of a Savior.  Find Mary and pray 1 Hail Mary."

100_4925

Their second "stop" was the crucifix.  The clue stated "Your journey continues at the feet of Christ, where our Savior willingly died for us, so we may have eternal life.  Find the crucifix and pray an "Act of Faith."

100_4922

Their 3rd "stop" took them to Calvary.  The clue stated "Next on your journey is Calvary, where Christ was crucified.  Find the picture of Calvary.  Pray an "Act of Hope."

100_4920

The last clue stated "Final stop on your journey ~ find your treasure in the clouds of Heaven."  K cut out a cloud from poster board, and I created these sweet bags.  They are the perfect size for carrying their Blue Knight member books, and other goodies.

100_4916

Then, it was time for snacks.  St. Ambrose is the patron saint of bee keepers, so K and E created these awesome Hunny Bee Cookies from Family Fun!  E added faces and stingers!! :)

The boys all had such a good time!!
